Announcement: Server move / New hoster

Dear chooms of CORTEX IMPLANT, NIGHT CITY BAR, CYBERPUNK PICS and TOTENTANZ community.

Today we would like to inform you about some exciting news concerning our communities. Currently our communities are spread over several server hosts (Hetzner, Weingärtner, Digital Ocean), which has led to some fragmentation.

But now we have great news for you!

We received a fantastic offer from my longtime favorite hoster manitu where I host my private projects.

Because of my personal relationship with them, they have been kind enough to sponsor us with a full high-end server.

Because of this generous support, we will save almost 100% of the costs we had before. In addition to that, our community instances will be 100% climate-neutral as they are running on renewable energy sources.

This is an incredible opportunity for us and our communities!

manitu hosts not only our communities but also the infrastructure of Gentoo Linux, Libre Office and ScummVM and is therefore a trustworthy partner when it comes to nerdy communities!

To take advantage of this and to provide an even stronger and more consistent community experience, we have decided to move all our communities to manitu's server.

These are the advantages of the complete move

Another important information concerns our monthly donations.

Since we now have almost no costs at all, we would like to inform you that theoretically the monthly donations will no longer be necessary as of October 01, 2023. Your donations have made a significant contribution to maintaining and improving our communities in the past, and we are deeply grateful.

The following costs will continue to be maintained:

However, we are very grateful for your generous support and the decision whether or not to continue donating is entirely up to you.

Due to the generous donations of some of our dedicated members, we currently have an amount left over that we do not need for running costs as of October 01, 2023. In order to be transparent and take your opinions into account, we have worked out some options on how we could use these excess donations:

We want to hear your opinions on these options. Please give us feedback on which way you prefer or if you have any other suggestions. Your voice is important to us and we want to make sure the decision is made in line with the interests of the entire community.

We also welcome feedback from people outside our community.

You can send us feedback through the following ways:

We will provide you with more information on the removal process and how donations will be handled in a timely manner. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our community management team.

Thank you again for your support. We look forward to experiencing the next phase of our communities on manitu's server with you!
